When you have tooth loss too severe for a simple bridge or an individual dental implant, we can help restore your smile with a set of custom dentures. We have full and partial options, and for added support we can secure them with dental implants too! In today’s blog, your Fort Bliss, TX, dentist talks about our custom dentures.
When You Need a Prosthetic
When you lose teeth, even if years have elapsed and you have lost a significant number of your teeth, you should consider a prosthetic. Otherwise, missing teeth could be linked to poor speech, limited nutritional intake, a higher risk of misalignment, and strained jaw joints, which could leave you vulnerable to issues like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). In addition, the body will stop sending key nutrients to the area of the jaw around the missing roots, which causes a breakdown linked to further tooth loss and even a much older appearance.
Full and Partial Dentures
We have two different options to address more advanced cases of tooth loss. With a full set of dentures, we can replace every tooth on one or both arches. To begin, we will extract the last few teeth and take detailed digital images and measurements of the smile, which we use in a lab setting to design and craft your new prosthetics. The new prosthetic will contain a full set of ceramic teeth set in an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of gum tissues.
With a partial, we can address situations where there are multiple gaps in the smile. We again custom-make the prosthetic to create new teeth set in an acrylic base. Only this time, metal clasps will attach to the natural teeth to secure the denture in place, filling the gaps in the smile at once.
Support with Dental Implants
We could provide removable options, which are secured with clasps and suction/adhesives, and tend to last about 5 to 10 years before replacement is necessary. This is because the jaw ridge changes shape due to tooth loss, and could impact the fit of your prosthetic. But we could also insert multiple dental implants into the jaw, which act as new roots and stop changes to the jaw ridge from occurring. This ensures stability and allows your new teeth to last for decades to come, sometimes a lifetime.
